I made this to wear for a friend’s traditional (Nigerian) marriage ceremony. Comfort was the main goal as you can see : ). I cut based on a fitted caftan I had made in Nigeria a while ago and just made this one more flow-yyy and the skirt part much wider. I did the embroidery using the stiches on my regular Brother Sewing machine. It turned out great and it was sooo comfy it felt like I had nothing on.
The scarf is part of the traditional outfit; all the bride’s friends wear the same scarf and typically would wear it with African Wax Print outfits; but I wanted something a lil different, hence my caftan. C&C welcome. : )
1)Eyelet (?) lace from Jo-Ann's - We use a similar lace that is much richer for some of our traditional outfits - I am not sure what that type is called but we refer to it as 'dry lace'. 2)Gold Embroidery thread

Love the embroidery details, and the simplicity of the outfit, :)
I own a brother too, and now I’m starting to feel I’ve under-utilized my machine, hehe…

It looks great! I never thought before that a caftan could look so totally elegant! And I like the scarf on the head, too.

oh this is so lovely…so simple yet elegant. I LOVE how you’ve used standard machine embroidery stitches…the placement and the gold on black makes them really something.

What a beautiful caftan!!! Love the fabric and the embroidery you did looks great (I tried to do embroidery by “shifting” the width of stitches on my basic Brother machine and… well, let’s say I know it’s not that easy to make it look as wonderful as yours turned out to be! ;-)). Just beautiful outfit all together!
