I need nighties. I think the Bambi pattern actually has just about every feature I could ask for in a nightie pattern—-empire waist, princess-seamed bust pieces, elastic back but smooth front, pleats beneath the bust… it’s just lovely. I didn’t opt for the flutter-sleeves.
Unfortunately it’s black, so it’s hard to see details in the pictures.

This looks lovely. Is you fabric a bit elastic and is the shirring in the back giving enough width to get in? I tried it once, but found a zipper to be necessary.

There is no stretch at all to the fabric. It is a bitof a wriggle to get in… This seems to be a common problem with this pattern. Making the elastic part wider relative to the back would probably help. :)

Thanks TanitIsis, I’ve tried to make the shirring wide enough, but then the fabric stuck out in the back which looked like a chute. I’ll probably do this pattern with a seam zipper in the side.

Aaah, I see. maybe that would only work in a softer fabric, then. Or perhaps if you made the back piece more rectangular, keeping the original hem width. I might try that next time.
Another thought that crossed my mind was putting a continuous-lap slit in the front between/below the bust pieces, closing with a button between the bust. That would give a little bit of extra wiggle room. I just don’t like the idea of a zipper in sleepwear (for me).
