Description

Another top based on free Colette pattern http://www.coletterie.com/colette-patterns-news/free-pattern-to-download-the-sorbetto-top. I removed the fold down the front and added the cowl neck (I think its still called a cowl neck like this but might be wrong – please correct!) Its my first time sewing a silky material and it turned out OK but I had some problems with the bias binding because it is too stretchy and therefore it isn’t the neatest but its fine if you don’t look too closely. Also I found it difficult to iron the bust dart flat – any ideas why? Perhaps it wasn’t sewn well enough or just to do with the material. Anyhow I was quite pleased with the neck and overall effect (and people didn’t ask if it was homemade which they have with some of my other “creations”)!

Material Notes

I think its satin although the label said silk its more coarse than that.

Absolutely gorgeous, schnul is right, it must be silk for that kind of drape, but perhaps it is a blend? With some fabrics a dart cannot be pressed flat as it doesn’t take to being pressed kindly, usually what I do then is to turn it into a french seam (very thin and tiny though) You could cut the excess off the dart though and stitch to prevent fraying. Depends on what the fabric is like or if indeed the poking out dart is an issue when the top is on! I still think it looks fantastic though and I just love everything about it :)

Your Sorbetto is beautiful. I love the fabric and the cowl neck is so nice- such a lovely idea. I am sure the fabric is silk for the cowl neck to drape so beautifully. Well done on a very professional looking top.
