A dress I made for my birthday party, using Cynthia Rowleys Simplicity pattern 2497. I shortened the length, changed the bottom part to pleats instead of a gather and added a brooch to the front.
A dirty gold coloured stiff satin, purchased on sale for €5 per metre.

So sad: they do not sell this any more on the international site… I fear I’ll have to get creative to “copy” the idea sans a pattern. Uhhhh. scary.

I love you fabric choice. I searched high and low for this pattern, and I finally found it…and haven’t had the occasion / fabric for it! One day maybe!!

This is gorgeous and looks amazing on you. Love the pattern, fabric and brooch. Sooo right about the pleates instead of gathers. Congrats.

I love it!!! This is my next project – I have material & all other essentials… just need the stitching time. I do like the idea of the pleats, was it difficult?

Thanks for the positive feedback!
I made the skirt two sizes bigger than the rest of the dress – a 12 for the skirt and an 8 for the bodice and the waistband. This helped give a little more volume to the skirt and gave me a little more fabric to play with in the pleats. The hardest thing was making sure both sides were even, but after that it was plain sailing!
Best of luck with yours, looking forward to seeing the finished item!
