I made this dress as a birthday surprise for my friend Nina.
She found the fabric at our local Bernina store but although she liked it for a wrap dress, she didn’t buy it because she already has a small fabric stash (which shows a self control I can just admire). So i went and bought the fabric to make dress for her birthday. I thought that with a stretchy jersey fabric and a wrap dress I could take the risk and already sew up a finished dress, as it would not be too “fit sensitive”.
But during construction, it became more and more unsure about what seemed to be a good idea first. So now I just hope that she will like it, I will give it to her this afternoon ( I also bought a book as a birthday present, just in case…)
The pattern is basically the wrap blouse from Burdastyle 1/2012, shortened at the waistline and with a half-circle skirt added, and short sleeves. I then had to modify it a bit, though, because the original pattern was supposed for a much thinner fabric than jersey, so the whole wrap thing was too thick at the waist first, until I took off the belts again and made them a lot narrower and also shorter. I think it came out quite ok in the end, but now I think I won’t sew any jersey in the next ten years, at least not such a stretchy one, it was awful to work with, stretching and sagging and pulling down!
