Burda Style For people who sew

Where I live, it rains, a lot. There’s nothing worse than coming out of a lecture and finding my bike seat sopping wet. I usually bring a plastic bag with me, but sometimes I forget, sometimes it rips…
I had this vinyl lying around and I had no idea what I’d ever use it for (it came in a big box of second hand material I got). I did made sure I used the biggest needle I have as well as the best thread. Interestingly, my machine sewed the vinyl better than it sews most cottons and polyesters…
To make the pattern, I just ran out in the rain to my bike armed with some baking paper and a vivid and traced around the top. I then just measured around the outside of my pattern and made a 4 inch border to make the sides. I then sewed it all together (no problems – surprisingly), found some elastic in my sewing box, and simply stretched that as I sewed in around the bottom.
A million times easier that I thought it would be!

I live in the Netherlands & I think should make a few of these. Thanks for sharing the one you made, I never thought about making my own! And for the summer you could make cute patterned ones too : )

I thought about doing this as well. I live in Portland, Oregon and we get a lot of rain. I recently made a seat cover for a vintage bike but it is just for looks and not function. Hearing that it was easy to sew with vinyl may inspire me to make a cover as well.
