I bough this pattern (Butterick Retro 52 B4919) about 2 years ago and made a special trip to buy fabric just for this dress (very much against my self-imposed policy of only sewing out of my fabric stash). I was so excited to find a fabric with a pattern that was similar to the dress on the envelop. Two years and 2 moves later, I figured it was finally time to make the dress. When I pulled the fabric out I had a small moment of panic when I realized how circus-y it seemed, but I sewed it up anyway. I made some changes to the pattern – I added a self-drafted 3/4 circle skirt rather than the full circle skirt in the pattern and I added some tabs on the bodice to gather the neckline into a sweetheart.
Cotton, zipper, vintage lace seam binding

This dress is lovely. I would never have compared it to a circus outfit. I think the stripped fabric is perfect for the style. Well done.

Curious about the bck though, any chance you could post a photo of the back? (Of the pattern or your dress)

Thanks for you comments. I posted pictures of the back (please ignore all the lint, which didn’t seem so bad until I saw the pics). The dress has a waist stay to keep the front in place and the back panels wrap around. Cheers :)

Really like the detail on the bodice and I think a 3/4 skirt was a very good call. Excellent result, classy and fun.
