Description
This time I made something specially for a 1950’s party – full gathered skirt, divided top, 3/4 sleves, the fabric is a red polycotton with a silver thread (you should sparkle at the party! ^^*~~).
I used my favourite pattern for a dress 128 from Burda 08/2009, but I made some alterations:
– I changed the neckline
– I divided the front into a 12 cm high lower part and a gathered upper part
The skirt is just a 2 metre pleated rectangle, but I left the front 14 cm straight.
The dress has a zipper on the back but this time I opted for comfort and I sewn in a 40 cm zipper starting about 15 cm below the neckline. Thanks to that I can zip it up and down myself which means I can put this dress on (and off) when I’m home alone! You should have seen me trying to put on other dresses with a long zipper reaching my neckline when my husband wasn’t home… (yes, I know, I attached some thin ribbon to a zipper, but it’s still difficult…)
I made a fascinator to accompany the dress (and the organza petticoat). My latest find, a leather vintage handbag matches my new dress. ^^*~~
My dress takes part in Mad Men Dress Challenge III inspired by the wardrobe of Betty Draper’s.

Thank you very much! :-)
I’ve already repeated this part in another dress and it wasn’t the last one like that!

It is really something special, absolutely great vintage image. Red is my always favourite: the fabric and the pattern are perfect match! Great result and you look like a girl from the magazine:-)

Very pretty, I love the little bow! You did such a good job on modifying the pattern, I could hardly recognize the original!

Thank you! :-) I keep using the top part of this pattern as a base for my modifications since I know it fits perfectly.
