“Whimsical Mermaid”….my costume for Halloween 2011, I’ve always wanted to dress up as a mermaid. I love Halloween for all the endless possibilities of costumes & accessories that I can make. You can never be too old for it. Thanks for checking out my costume & hope you like it :)
I used a sewing machine to make the base skirt & fin. I hand sewn 300+ individual “fish scales” into the skirt. I made a faux felt seashell bra attached to a nude top & embellished it with iridescent & crystal sequins, all handsewn individually as well & I put in strings of pearls onto the seashell bra. And of course you cannot be a mermaid without a mermaid crown so I handcrafted (with some wire works on the beads & pearls all around the crown) a mermaid crown with real seashells (sugar starfish, puka shells, turitellas & various natural seashells), crystal beads & faux pearls.
