She’s not evil or mean…just…very, very, very ugly. With a big wooden spoon.
This costume is based on my own interpretation of Tatterhood from the fairy tale of the same name. It is my 2nd Halloween costume for this year, because for 2011, I went a little nuts during late summer and autumn months. The tale is about two sisters, one beautiful, the other ugly. Tatterhood, the ugly one, carries around a wooden spoon, rides a goat and fights trolls and witches. I’m “working” on an illustrated story that involves the tale of Tatterhood (amongst other stories), so this costume is based on a drawing I did.
My favorite items to make were the shoes and the bag (first time working with leather) and the prosthetic nose (made out of latex). Not having to hem anything, and getting to distress fabric was a lot of fun, I highly recommend it. There were a few things I commissioned specifically for this costume. The spoon was from a wood butcher, based on a ‘blueprint’ I provided. The woven leg wraps were also ordered.
The wooden spoon may be real, but the goat is not (he’s a little goat backpack that I made).
