This took me forever to make! I started out with a circular tablecloth, a plain white bustier, and a huge white sweatshirt. I cut the bottom of the sweatshirt off leaving the hood, shoulders, and some chest covering. I cut the bottom hem to look like feathers and sequined them. I used the rest of the sweatshirt to make a bunch of feather shapes which either got sequined or covered in glitter.
I folded the tablecloth in half and did some shoddy cutting and draping in order to make wing like sleeves, I then covered the entire backside and some of the inside with the felt and sweatshirt “feathers”. At this time I decided glue on the rest of the sequins instead of sewing them one by one, this proved to be much easier and I had no problems with sequins coming off.
For my tail and belt I used some flannel and iron on interfacing to create the belt, “buckle” and long tail feather in back. As with the rest of this costume I finished by covering in beads sequins and glitter felt feathers.
The bustier was really easy! I got about three packs of turkey flat feathers and glued them on one by one until the whole thing was covered, Afterwards I glued on a few sequins here and there.
I cut up a boa and tied it around my neck and tucked it under the feather belt for warmth and coverage.
For the headdress I covered a manikin head in saran wrap and formed a narrow skullcap like shape down the middle of the head. I wrapped tinfoil around a pencil and flattened and fanned out the bottom to make that feather holder. I paper mache’d around the bases of these to secure. Once dry, I cut the form down to fit my head and then applied several layers of paint to seal it. I decorated the base with glitter and sequins and cut the feathers to size and secured them in the holders using hot glue.
