this contest got me sewing again, thank you burdastyle!
a little bit of the 1720’s by way of watteau, a little bit of the 1980’s by way of prince…
i draped and cut and pintucked, no pattern was used, but i was also inspired by the butterick walkaway dress of the 50s.
the back can be worn open or closed, as you like…
if you want to go the prince route (anyone remember the sexy mf performance with the exposed lace buttcheeks?), wear it without a slip! only your sides are exposed, though— this ain’t that kind of party.
wonderful stretchy lace,
and vintage pins from my grandmothers :)

i lucked into this lace at chic fabrics in NY, they rotate their stock and have a $1-$3/yard sale section at the front of the store.

thank you so much! the whole one solid color thing is actually new for me; usually i need at least seven in a garment :)… ah, seven, one of the most awesome prince songs, back when he changed his name to a made up symbol…

thanks naddles! the back was once closed, that’s where the watteau aspect came in— then it morphed into this.

i used the roses in the lace to be sure i had everything lined up, the best thing was i didn’t even need markings!
