The full pattern for this dress is available in my Etsy store!
The inspiration for my party dress are the “tailormades” and cycling outfits for women of the 1890s, in the Victorian era. In this era, women were dressing more practically than before, and wearing outfits that imitated men’s suits of the time. They were becoming more independent: riding bicycles and working in offices, and they wanted to be taken seriously as equal citizens. Military and authoritative, serious styles were popular.
I designed and did the pattern for my dress. In my dress, I incorporated the black bias trim that is seen on many dresses from my inspiration board. Instead of big leg-of-mutton sleeves I shrunk them into little puff sleeves. The skirt is made from 4 identical pattern pieces overlapped on each other.
The fabric is satin, with black chiffon bias trim and cord.
