I made these boots for my son a while ago, but only got around to posting it now. I used pieces of 2 leather coats I got at the thrift store, leftover fleece from another project and a bit of a foam material sandwiched between the lining and the leather on the front and sole (I don’t know the name, it was a blanket, very thin and lightweight, looks like foam, very very warm. I had to sew the sole by hand, my machine refused the many layers, and I also had run a few stitches on the bottom (sole lining and foam) to keep it from folding inside the shoe. I’m very pleased with the result. It can be worn 2 ways.
I used this pattern as a starting point

I made a few shoes using this pattern, the only thing I recommend if someone uses it, is to alter the heel by decreasing between 1/4-1/2" from the bottom part of the heel on the sides so that the bottom part of the heel is not straight, but curved sort of like a slight smile. This prevents the heel sides from bunching a little under the elastic part. I hope my explanation is understandable.
