Description

My little sister has been looking for a new cool coat, but the one she liked most was over her budget, so she sent me a picture of it with the question: Can you make me one like this? My choice fell on the Oversize coat from the Sep 2015 Burda straight away (but I sent her a variety of proposed patterns just in case…) and guess which one she chose :)
The fabric is a beautiful soft wool suiting fabric (I think that’d be the category), the type used in Norwegian national dress and locally called Vadmel.
The only change from the original pattern was the belt. Upon request from customer I made thin thread-chain belt holders on the sides instead of gashing the front. Well, and I didn’t use bias tape as you can see.
Given I’m here in Norway and my sister lives in Egypt, there was a lot of texting involved in this project. The selfie I sent with the coat on when I was done received a reply of smiley faces with hearts for eyes :)
One happy little sister achieved!

Maybe the reason why I disliked this pattern is the “frozen” face of the model in the magazine. It looks really nice on your sweet little sister!

Thank you Chula :) Yes! Although wool isn’t cheap, it still cost only quarter of the price of the Massimo Dutti coat my sister liked, and given I’m the older and “richer”, she actually got it for free…lucky sister indeed :D
