Inspired by Alabama Studio Style this is my entirely handsewn Banksia dress. The banksia is an Australian wildflower. The woody fruit of most banksia species only opens up to release seeds after a bushfire. It has been just over a year since the Black Saturday bushfires and the landscape and the affected communities are slowly regenerating. I live in a culturally diverse community and I am constantly inspired by the patterns and colours of the textiles of the people around me who come from all around the globe as well as the colours and textures within the Australian landscape.
Cotton knit fabric and re-cycled cotton t-shirts. Sewn with DMC and vintage cotton embroidery threads.
