Description

This is from the same year I made the space costume. Isn’t going through old photos fun? Jesse’s preschool teacher needed an idea for some kind of head dress for the concert item the preschoolers would be doing- a song about singing tropical bananas or something. I was inspired by the Bananas in Pyjamas and designed my very first (and only) pattern. – the banana hat. I ran it off on the photocopier and gave it out to the other mum’s. We had a working bee at Preschool one day and did most of the cutting out. Some mum’s took one or a few to sew up at home with the instructions I included. However, as the concert got nearer and nearer, there were still many more to do and not enough mums who knew how to sew, I ended up making about one class worth of banana hats – about 25. There were two preschool classes so we needed 50 all told. Luckily, there were quite quick to sew up, but I do remember many late nights burning the midnight oil. I think I still have the pattern somewhere if anyone’s interested in making a banana hat.

Sorry about the photo quality, but wanted to show how cute and funny they looked on stage. This is as close a photo as I could get on the night.
