Warning: This dress pattern is not for the faint of heart. It’s Cynthia Steffe for Vogue (V1174). I’ve been looking for an opportunity to try this pattern out and when we received an invite to attend a September wedding, I knew just what to make.
Dress is fully lined, has a foundation with boning, waist stay, piping detail and an invisible zip just to mention a few features. Approximately thirty-five cut pieces later and many, many hours of testing my patience, I have my dress! I ending up making it two sizes smaller, but of coarse only after I had already test fitted and sewn the bodice once in full. Some of us learn the hard way. Look at that foundation though! I have never seen such a beautiful interior design. Also notice that the skirt is sewn on top of the bodice, pleats and all. This is something I had not noticed myself until I began the pattern.
Still not sure I choose the best fabric for this dress. I may have to have another go at it using a solid color with more contrasting piping. Only alteration I made was to add some additional piping to the top edge of bodice. Made some matching flowers for my hair as well.
