I originally cut this and sewed this skirt for a dress that I was making from a vogue pattern. But I never finished the dress and lost some of the bodice pieces in various moves over the last year. I was so happy with the skirt that I decided to just add a waist band and wear it as a skirt. But I installed the zipper wrong and didn’t have time to go back and fix it. In the end I was looking through my patterns and came across a simplicity skirt pattern designed by Cynthia Rowley and the light bulb went off. So I removed the waist band I had originally attached to the skirt and had just enough fabric for the front and back waist band. I had to use some black cotton for the facing pieces and red stretch knit that I had on hand for the seam binding ( I won’t be doing that again.) I had some challenges as the waistband pattern was designed for a skirt that had a back zipper and my skirt already was set up for a side zipper and I had finished the seams with a french seam ( I didn’t have time or a desire to rip the seams apart and do them again). In the end I am pleased with the overall look of the skirt although I could have done a neater job on some of my finishing. I wore it for my dad’s 60th birthday party and received many compliments.
