I made this waistcoat for my boyfriend to wear at Ascot 2011. This double-breasted style was quite expensive in the shops and only a small choice of colours, so I bit the bullet and tried it myself.
This pattern is essentially Vogue 7488 however I lengthened it 1 1/2 inches at the waist, added extra buttons as it didn’t fit as closely to the chest as he would have liked. I found the instructions incredibly difficult to follow so was very glad I made a toile! I definitely recommend practising the peaked lapels – the help I received from the Burda Style discussion forum on this was invaluable!
Linen twill with a satin lining and back and wooden buttons. I used fusible interfacing rather than the recommended sew-in but it I were to do it again I may revert to the sew-in since the amount of handling this gets in handling meant it seperated from the interfacing and I re-ironed it and spray starched it to avoid the bubbly look.
No need to go outside… spend the morning in dolled up in this collection of vintage style pajamas.
