This is my first success sewing a pair of skinny jeans for myself. I would never have considered this pattern if not for reading Handmade by Carolyn’s blog and the lovely jeans she makes from the same pattern. I had tried this pattern once before with some stretch drill fabric but they ended up too small (Luckily for my sister they fit her!). I did several alterations to the pattern including:
drafted a coin pocket (basically a rectangle of fabric sewn onto the pocket piece)
made the legs substantially skinner by tracing my other skinny jeans onto the pattern piece (folding at the seams for front and back)
drafting a fly facing piece as the pattern oddly doesn’t include this
adding length to the waistband to allow for fly facing piece and my podgy waist!!
double stitching the inside instead of the outside leg.
decorative stitching on the back pockets
rivets by copying my other pairs of jeans
changing the belt loops to look more like my other pairs of jeans
I absolutely love my jeans and I’m sure I will get a lot of wear out of them. Coloured stretch denim is extremely hard to find in Perth, Western Australia but I was lucky enough to find this in Spotlight (like Joanne’s) for $4 a metre (I’ve never seen it there before or since). If I can find some more I am sure I will be making more jeans in the future.
