I made a simple aqua polyester shantung skirt with embroidered bird pattern. I saw this fabric in the decorator clearance department of Jo-Ann and I knew I had to have a skirt made out of it. I wanted as little interruption of the design as possible, so I did a simple a-line, one-seam skirt with darts in front and back. I finished the waistband with a grosgrain ribbon and a hook and eye. I hand-finished the hem with vintage thrift store flexi-lace hem tape. With a sweater now and a blouse later, this is a 4-season skirt. It’s going to look great with my white Burdastyle blouse, if I ever finish sewing it together backwards and inside out. I originally envisioned pleats and a straight hang, but changed during cutting to a-line, which gave the back trees an angle. I think it looks good with the tree angle, so I am okay with it. I will try a daylight picture so the fabric shows, but it rained today. Party Skirt!
This is made from one yard of polyester decorator shantung with an embroidered birds-on-trees motif. $9 per yard at Jo-ann.
