Yay!!! I’m finally posting the pictures of the skirt!!! :-) The “making of” is best described in the technique I wrote… ummm…. some time ago. ;-) Here’s the url here on Burda (sorry, I don’t know how to create a link) – http://www.burdastyle.com/techniques/another-ex-jeans-skirt
I did unintentionally end up with a couple of pleats in the front two panels, but I like it even more that way, actually.I would have preferred the skirt to be a bit fuller (or a bit longer or both), but I did want to see if I could pull it off using just the fabric from the pair of jeans itself and that’s what came out. The skirt is still fun and great for walking around our small Michigan town and the embroidery gives it even more down-to-earth feeling, which I love (not for everything, but for this particular skirt).
Note: the colours are a bit off both on my skin (it looks more red) and in the embroidery (the threads look slightly lighter)
I hope you like it! And I have another “retired” pair of jeans to slash now and I definitely want to experiment again! We’ll see what I come up with…
"Retired" pair of jeans, some green scrap piece from a thrift store mystery bag for leaves, thread and embroidery floss, and lots and lots of time just because... ;-)

Oooh, Almatinka, you done it again. I like your skirt and the rescuing thereof. The pleats are cute and gives such a femimine look. The embroidery is fantastic. By hand? You have such patience! Good job.

Thank you!!! I am glad you like it! But you are mistaken – I do not have patience and therefore the hand embroidery took so long!!! :-) I was done with the skirt, except for hemming it and a couple of seam joints back when I created the technique… :-) The rest of the time was spent “embroidering” it… a few stitches every 2-3 weeks! ;-);-);-) Now that it’s done, I do hope my new sewing projects will move along faster… ;-)

This is soooo pretty! I especially love the embroidered touch to it. It makes it unique. It’s nice to have something that no one else has, eh? You look very good in it, too!

Oh, thank you so much!!! I know what you mean about the “something that no one else has” being nice – I am itching to sew more, so that I could have even more stuff that is “me” and only “me”! ;-) Thank you again!

Well, with all the gibberish we receive from the platform and the absence of activity feed I managed to miss this! I love your new skirt and what you did with it! And YAY for refashioning! I think you’ve done a great job here!

Thank you so much!!! You didn’t miss it by much and I hope that the site will allow us to watch each other’s work without interruptions from now on… ;-)

Yes, I just can’t get rid of my old jeans that know me so well! What a great way to keep them around, work your skills, and have a “new” item in the closet! Great job!

;-) I like the way you put it!!! Almost like it’s the jeans that would be missing us and not the other way around! ;-) And thank you!

Oh, I love the flowers! It is funny you posted this, I redid a denim pair of shorts last week for a haloween costume and made them into a skirt. It don’t look as nice as yours or as full. I was tring to see in your pictures if I could see the seam/s in the front you have them hide well. I also like the length, its a nice lenght maybe its because I think that knee lenght skirts are very feminine.

Thank you!!! And that’s an interesting coincidence! :-) As for the seams – if you look at the technique drawings, you’ll see where they are – one is right at the center, two run down the middle of the pleats, two are on the sides and three are in the back in the same locations as on the front. Basically it’s an “8-part skirt on a yoke”. I’ll see what I can do with my “new” pair of “retired” jeans now… ;-) But thank you so much again!!! ;-)

I like the pleats in the front. They are what caught my eye, along with the embroidery. Is the embroider hand stitched? I’ve always wanted to do this to a pair of jeans, but never got around to it…I’m inspired to give it a try. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you so much!!! I actually wasn’t happy that I had to put the pleats in, but maybe you are right – maybe they do add interest. And yes, the embroidery is hand-stitched and is partly the reason for the skirt to have taken so long – the other (and much bigger) part being my laziness, I guess… ;-) I would only put in a few stitches at a time and then “forget” about the skirt for weeks! ;-) I am glad it’s done finally and I am glad you like it!!! :-) Hope to see your version soon!!!

Good job – I use your technique to design my own “jeans to skirt” makeover. I love the way your designed the hemline.

It is so great to see somethings is done from old cloths. Before I (re)started sewing, I gave old stuff to charitably causes, now I will keep them and wait for some inspiration…
The skirt really looks great, especially the embroidery is such a lovely detail.

Thank you so much for your comment!!! I definitely didn’t want to part with these jeans, as they were fine, except for a few problematic spots. I’m glad you liked the result of my “rescue mission”… ;-)
