  I’d also really love to know how much fabric this project uses, and how to add compartments inside. Anyone got any ideas?

  Has anyone tried to somehow add a divider/s into the inside of this bag? So that you have two [or more] compartments instead of one large one? And are there any tips for adding pocket into the inside?

  I know close to nothing about sewing but I’m in love with this bag and really want to make one :)

  I was looking for something to sew in arts&crafts at school, and had no idea what to make. (optional task) I googled different pages and links for inspiration, and found this. On the frontpage I saw this bag, and it was love at first sight! I absolutey LOVE it!! It’s perfect in every way! But how do I get the pattern? Do I order it, and get it in the mail, or something? Can someone try to explain this for me? :P (I’m from Norway, do these patterns come in the shops here?)

    On the right hand side of your screen, there should be a button that says add to cart. Once you buy it, you can download a pdf. Then you print it at home, tape the pages together and cut out your pattern!

  I love the bag, but I don´t know about that skinny model… Why shouldn´t we address that? I don´t think this site is only about clothes and sewing, there is presented a certain type of beauty, too… What do we find or think or want to think is beauty… Sure the model is beautiful, but why is there almost always such a thin and “perfect” one? Maybe I´m just jealous and lack self – confidence, so never mind :). Off to work on that…

    To me it looks like she is wearing a top and nothing else. . . .

    Maybe I am getting old. I sound like a right old battle axe don’t I? LOL!!! (I too must strugle with this confidence thing. .. )

  Fabric is by Kokka or Echino, a japanese fabric company. I couldn’t find that exact fabric on etsy, but here’s a similar one in a different colorway:

  I just made this bag last night and took it to work and three people want me to make it for them already! I did do the plastic canvas in the bottom and I think it’s too much structure for me, but it works. I love the size and it was so easy to make. Thanks for the pattern!

  You can get plastic canvas in the needle crafts section at a major chain fabric store. It’s used for large needle needlepoint, usually with yarn.

  I don’t think the model is too skinny – I think she looks fine! Also, this is to show off the bag, not to critic the model’s frame. It seems to me that if we put a plus model on here, she’s too skinny as well! People are never happy… But anyway, on to the bag! WONDERFUL! I truly love this! What an awesome bag – and just in time! Great job and a huge thank you for yet another fantastic pattern, BurdaStyle!

  That really is a cute bag. I agree that the use of plastic canvas for bag bottoms works great, I’ve been using it for years. It comes in different thicknesses [with different spacing/size holes] and large sheets can be cut down to the correct size easily with craft scissors. I also use 1 inch wide strips and zigzag to the side seams to give the bag structure. This way the bag stands on its own instead of sagging into a pile when you set it down. One thing to note: when washing a bag with plastic canvas, don’t allow the bag to go through the machine’s spin cycle, as the plastic canvas can break. Ask me how I know.

  p.s. plastic canvas is also great to use for hat brims…I pad it with batting and add double-fold bias tape around the outer edge [to protect the fabric], hand basted in place, before inserting into the brim fabric. It gives a nice professional quality to the hat’s brim.

  I absolutely love the look of this purse. It’s the details that make it something truly extraordinary.

  To Daiseyland, you left a comment and I just wanted to make sure I understood you correctly. You talked about putting plastic grid pieces in the bottom of the purse for reinforcement. Were you talking about plastic canvas?

  I’ve been making amatuer purses for a while and I’ve used a variety of materials to reinforce the bottoms, but for some reason, plastic canvas never dawned on me. It’s a great idea! I’m so glad I read your comment!

  Burdastyle’s Messenger Bag has been a big hit for college students because it holds books well. However, no matter how much I spruce it up, it’s functionality exceeeds its style quotient. I think this bag might be an excellent cross between the two.

  No matter, I SO appreciate the tip about using plastic canvas to reinforce the bottoms. Logically, it does seem like a much better choice than cardboard or closed-cell foam.

  I gotta look at the details closer. It’s truly gorgeous, as well as highly functional. Thanks!

  Instead of cardboard for strength and stiffness, try using the plastic grid that’s made for needlepoint. It comes in different sizes and colors, it is cheap and can be enlarged by lacing two pieces together. It holds it’s shape for longer than cardboard, and if you need to wash your bag, it isn’t affected at all. You can get it in craft and fabric places. If you need more stiffness, lace two pieces together in different directions.

  Thank you for the info Benedikta! I think this is the coolest pattern I have seen lately :) I would just want to suggest to people making the bag that they don’t put their house keys or cell phone in the outside side pockets, but that they make similar ones inside! Should give pickpockets a harder job :)
