I’ve been craving some animal print outerwear for years now and finally decided It Was Time. I used the cape pattern Vogue 8776, primarily because I loved the funnel collar and the fact that the placement of the arm openings would allow me to have my purse over my shoulder (the biggest downfall to most capes).
I wanted to delve into some couture dressmaking techniques, so I added welt pockets to all of the openings, and bound all of the buttonholes using a black cotton sateen. The pattern did not call for a lining but I wanted a flash of colour on the inside so I lined it with a winterweight satin lining. It is by far my most treasured homemade garment!
I wrote a longer post about my techniques here, and a tutorial on placing welt pockets on the seam of a garment here.
