Description

So my husband and I decided to try and make him a pair of pants. He wanted something not slim fitting and the choice fell on this model.
He joined me on a trip to the fabric store and found the fabric himself, it’s a printed checkered jeans fabric that I was rather sceptical about but that actually turned out really nice.
Technique-wise this is probably the neatest thing I’ve ever done, well sewn inside and out.
A few lessons learned out of this project of course related to size and fit for the body type, but generally not bad. Husband happy :)
Featured in the shoot is also my little boy JJ :)
The pattern is from the Burda catalog AW15/16, pattern #7046 item B (last picture)

Excellent trousers… The choice of the pattern is very good and the fitting is awesome, looks very nice and the trousers suits your husband a lot. To make good trousers is not so easy so both of you can be proud of each other:-) Great job!

wow, that’s incredible Maria, you are very brave to make him pants, probably making pants for someone else is much easier than making for yourself as it is easier to fit another person but in any case you have made pants, that’s fantastic, i’ve still not convinced myself to try it.

      Thanks Aida!
You should try! It’s not much different than culottes you know, but you get to learn the front zipper business :) Come on Aida! You can do it! :D

Thank you so much! I’ve been sewing for many people. It’s always a bit scary but fun :) Especially when they like it :D

Thank you Daniela! You should absolutely try pants, especially for yourself! If you can adjust the fit, the process itself is a lot easier than it seems :) And if you ever decide to do it and get confused by a normal front zipper (Burda’s instructions drove me up the wall!), I can provide a link to illustrated instructions :)

Hello Maria , your husbands trousers look great , the fit looks perfect. You did a good job. My husband wants trousers too but I think I will beginn with a man’s shirt , I think it;s easier.

Hi Maria, thank you so much! The shirt will be easier fit-wise but not detail wise! Think the button line, the collar, the cuffs. brrrr…The pants weren’t difficult as such, but I chickened out and went a size bigger than I originally wanted, which turned out to not be a smart choice…but you don’t see it if the waist is covered :D

Thank you so much! I’m happy enough with them too, but we could’ve gone like half a size smaller :)

The pants look so nice. My husband likes looking at fabric, but understands that menswear is more tailored. I have offered to make pajamas and boxer shorts for him,so waiting until favorite pair worn down, so I can take apart and use as a template.

Thank you! I think with men it depends on what you’re making. There’s always T-shirts and such :D And generally if he’s got a relatively standard shape, then not much “tailoring” needed if you start from a pattern, and you learn what’s needed after the first garment anyway :D “oh! Your bum was flatter than I thought” :D :D

You ‘ve done a great job Maria! I’ve never made anything for my husband…I even hate fixing the hems of his pants…. I suppose he won’t be very cooperative and the whole process will be a test for my patience.

Thank you Elpida! Erik is very cooperative and supportive, I got him in and out of pants a good number of times :D You can try once with your husband and then bring it up every time he asks for something more :D

Wonderful job on the pants. I love to see garments for men too. So often we forget them because well, guy clothing is not as fun and exciting, even though men are special too! Mr. Kitty seems to approve as well. :-)

And Mr. Kitty had good taste :p
Thank you so much Edie! I think it’s not that we forget men, but it’s more the fact that the variation in their garments is rather limited…I do like sewing for my husband though and he loves having garment that no one else does :)
