Description

The photos on the pattern packet were utterly rubbish, so I relied on the outlines on the back for the actual shape. I used £2 scrap of jersey I bought in a bargain bin just as a test. It was the first stretchy item I ever sewed.

I hated the fabric when I bought it but actually really liked it once it was a dress – so its taught me to always think twice about pattern fabric!

Oh and I was about a good 14lbs lighter when I had the photos taken, so now its somewhat more rounded when I wear it! hee hee.

Material Notes

2 way stretch jersey.

I LOVE this type of dress, do you know where I could get the pattern from?

Its from Vogue, I think they still have it in their catalogue, so you can probably get it in a John Lewis or fabric shop that sells patterns or online

I have made this dress too! It’s a fun pattern. Mine is made out of a crazy black and white swirly lycra that I wear over jeans.

    Looks great on you!

The fit of the dress is amazing! And you are right – the photos on the envelope are horrible compared to your dress, which is pretty and fun!

I was always scared of stretchy stuff, but this was an experiment gone right! I just folded over the hem & sleeves as I didn’t have enough fabric left from the bargain bin scrap.

p.s Thanks everyone for the ego boosting comments! :)

Very hot, mama! The pattern looks great because it’s such a simple silhouette. I get nervous about that all the time. My hips would def need some Spanx for that dress :)

Your dress came out really well! I tried making this but had a lot of fabric bunching up in the back where the pleats are. I need a swayback adjustment, but have no idea how to do it with this pattern as there is no center back seem.

Hmm, you got me thinking about that! I would try making the folds/pleats deeper at the back to take in that extra fabric.. I haven’t looked at the pattern in ages, but maybe you could trace the half of the back bodice side without the folds… then as you have a natural sway back it may still have extra fabric you can take in on the side for the pleats?

i love this! it looks like one of those “effortless” looking dresses that just make you look fabulous whether you had 8 hours of sleep or 1/2 hour of sleep. You look great. The dress looks great. And I think I need this pattern!

Very nice dress, and thanks for including the line-drawing, it’s always interesting to see. How could you ever hate that fabric, I love it! But I know the fear of patterns, I’m nearly phobic (only with fabric for me though).

Hmmm… that design looks familiar, although DKNY does have a familiar look to all those patterns…. I need to consult my pattern stash ASAP. Oh, by they way, I like your dress! Good job!
