Description

This is a great men’s zip-up jacket pattern with a stand-up rib collar, raglan sleeves, and pockets. For ours, instead of using tried-and-true sweatshirt fabric to make the basic zip-up we see all the time, we decided on a decadent cable knit with contrasting ribbing, putting a classic spin on a modern staple. Whatever fabrication you decide on, whomever zips up in this cozy creation will surely be pleased!

This is awesome. I just happened to find two XXL Men’s sweaters at the thrift shop last month that I intended to felt, including a very soft angora/wool blend with an argyle pattern – perfect for this!

Why not rescue a gently-loved oversized sweater from second hand, then cut your appropriately-sized pattern pieces from it?

Does anyone know where you can get good quality knit? I am not a knitter. Gorgeous pics. Oh to be young again…..

Wow, beautiful. My Great-Grandmother did something similar for her farming family. She made zip-up vests and lined jackets with the worn hand-knit sweaters. She even took pieces of various men’s sweaters and re-cut them for the kids. The family stories report some pretty wild combinations! But one and all loved the mitts and leggings sown out of old felted wool sweaters.

Thanks Burda! Suzanne northern BC Canada

Looks like I’ll be haunting thrift shops for some sweaters to chop up for this, only I am thinking V neck with the thick ribbing so it does a kind of shawl collar.

While the boy is young enough to be my son, he is adorable! You are some very lucky girls.

I’m like everyone else on here and definitely think you should share your source for that comfy textile! I haven’t seen anything like it at all here in the South.

    Also:

What a cutie! Props to Burda for consistently adorable boys.
