Description

Although there are a lot of bags out there it’s rare to find one that is actually right for what you want. This is a run through for a handy ‘Mummy’ bag so I can help a friend who is new to sewing. It’s a way for me to practice and test different techniques and also a chance for me to have a go at writing instructions- at least I remembered to take photos as I went along.
The plain bag should only take an hour but I wanted to add side and front pockets as well as the front pocket and also thought buttonholes would be a good idea, especially as I have new cute little star buttons!

Material Notes

Any will do, but as I was only doing this as a practice run I used an old curtain I’d been given. Polycotton will work as it is a lined bag but canvas reminds me of my Dad’s old bag, especially as I didn’t make the flap long enough.

Simple and practical. Good project for beginners. Have you got a pattern, or dimensions?

Hi I didn’t make an actual pattern I just put my dimensions in the pattern instructions, (but I forgot about the length but I explained that in the instructions) that way you can alter it to make it fit what you want to carry in it. It’s probably best to make it in newspaper for size and then don’t forget your seam allowances before you cut it out or it’ll be smaller than you want it.
Sorry it’s taken so long to get back, have you made one yet?

Sorry, no. Been busy with the start of the school year, making my Awards Frock, and getting ready for dance classes. A couple of my kids need new dance bags, so I think this just might be the ticket.
