I made this jacket with quite a few changes from Pattern 115A – November 2006. One of the biggest challenges I have found in making clothes for a petite figure (me at 5’4") is that standard features such as collars and pocket flaps are not downsized relative to bodice and sleeve pieces. The result is that the petite figure can be swamped in these details. As I was making this jacket I found that the pocket flaps in chest and waist areas made me look, pardon the imagery, like an old cow with droopy udders! So I had to omit them. The result is a rather simpler jacket that I originally hoped for. But all that said, I would recommend this pattern. Made with properly sized pocket flaps, in a sold color, and with brass buttons, the jacket could have a military flare.

one trick i read somewhere on here, unfortunately I cant remember from who….but if you’re petite (I’m 4’-10’) if your using an online print pattern…take a larger size and print it at a lesser percentage….that way everything gets reduced in proportion….so far I’ve only tried it on a child’s toy…worked fabulously…but I’ve yet to try on actually clothing.

Well done! The matching of the lines are perfection. Did you ever tried to put a smaller patch pocket right around the waist line? I’m tall, but have the same problem with breast pockets. Makes me feel weird.But around the waist is cute, not much function, but gives a little movement to the garment.

I did actually retain a small pocket slit on the right side of the jacket – just large enough for money and/or lipstick – but now that you mention it, it would have been cool to also retain a small flap or somehow highlight that it is there. Next time I have the same quandry, I’ll definitely keep in mind how pockets can add movement to the garment!
