Description

For the Sew Weekly Oscars theme, I chose Colleen Atwood’s award-winning Alice in Wonderland costumes. I based my version off of the pale blue with black palette, and tried to keep it floofy and girly while still being not too costume-y. I used lace instead of embroidery, and kept the tiered skirt but shortened it considerably to keep it wearable. Unfortunately, due to a poor sleeve pattern that I didn’t muslin beforehand, I can’t lift my arms at all. Oh well, I just need to stand around looking confused about the whereabouts of the white rabbit, right?

More details and photos here.

Material Notes

thrifted poly-cotton twin flat sheet, lots of lace trim, a giant lace applique piece

And again I say, “now surely, this must be the coolest dress EVER!”

But seriously, this is just stunning. And I love, love, love the lace applique.

I can’t believe it’s a reworked sheet! So beautiful! Sorry about the sleeves, but fashion doesn’t seem to care about practicality or mobility anyway…

That’s pretty amazing to be a thrift sheet. It’s a shame you can’t lift your arms though. Regardless, it still a great dress.

Thank you! It’s actually a very pale blue, but it’s hard to photograph.

Thank you! Unfortunately, I don’t have enough fabric left to redo the sleeves. But I think that’s okay, as I don’t plan to wear this for active events anyway!

It’s my first time working with that much embellishment, so I’m glad it worked! Thank you!

All credit for the color combo goes to Colleen Atwood! She’s a genius.
