This slim pencil skirt is highly suitable for any work environment. It fits just below the natural waist and with pleats on one side it accentuates both slender and curvy figures.

I made this in black cotton sateen. The pattern fit was fairly accurate and the full lining is a nice addition. The main variation I made was to eliminate the front pockets. They seem oddly placed (especially since this is a hip-fit, rather than a waist-fit skirt) and also because I noticed that there were problems with gaping in some of the project photos. .
A note on the style: I wouldn’t say this is a true “pencil skirt,” although the cut is straight. (Anyway the pencil skirt is a nice idea on tall/slim figures, but unfortunately they can tend to look rather dowdy too). So, I made it a little shorter and it is still fine for work or elsewhere. Also, I used an invisible zip, which I think looks a lot more finished—had to sew the pieces in a different order from the instructions though. It’s a fairly simple pattern, and so I would recommend it for most sewers.

The pleats just look accidental to me.

I agree, perfect for the office. But, it could go sexy too, if made in satin with the front seams slit about 6"!
