Description
For a long time I wanted to make one of the pieces on the showstudio design download. I decided to attempt to construct the Alexander McQueen jacket for my sisters 21st. After many hours of pain, frustration, doubt and elation I finally finished it . I finished the garment a few months before the world of fashion lost such an inspirational and talented figure. I learnt a lot from this jacket and would encourage sewers to have a go at it.
My blog fickle sense
pattern can be found here along with others. http://showstudio.com/project/designdownload/alexander.mcqueen
I plan to try the john galliano next.

Hi! Love this project! I’m starting on my own McQueen jacket today! Just one question: Which size would you say it is? I don’t think it an easy task to change the size on this one, and I guess I’ll try to make it anyhow, but I do hope it will be wearable when it’s done!!

My sister and I are size 8 australian (XS). It fits both of us. I am sure your version will turn out great! Good luck.

Question…what size was the pattern when you printed it out?

I assumed that the pattern would be one of the smallest sizes. e.g. size 8 australian (sorry I don’t know NZ sizes, maybe we have the same??). My sister and I are a size 8 and it fits us both well. I did not make any adjustments to the pattern….I hope you have a go at making it, it was a challenge, but well worth it in the end

I like your plaid, ‘Black watch tartan’ I also did this in a red wool tartan, it remains as a tribute to the great man

Ooh, a fellow Perthie, hi! This jacket is truly gorgeous! You did an amazing job. I tried this once but after having to unpick a mess of weird darting once gave up in despair, your example is so good I think I’ll get back to it, thanks for the inspiration!

I downloaded this pattern but I’ve been a bit unsure to try it, your version makes me like it much more, great work and the tartan print gives it a fun feel. Thanks so much for sharing, I bet you’ve inspired heaps of us to try this pattern now! xx

Bravo— job well done, it’s gorgeous. I have tried to download one of SHOWstudio’s patterns and I got a tiny overview layout of the pattern, not a true-to-life-size pattern. Do you have any suggestions for downloading the patterns? thanks! alison

heya, thanks for the feature! …. it was a while ago that I printed this one….the best way is to use the full size print. (I was lucky enough to have my boyfriend print it at his design office on the plan printer). From memory it was an A0 page, the one thing to make sure is that the Acrobat does not scale the pattern down. Thanks again!

thanks. My sister and I are both quite small, it fits both of us. We are generally a size XS. I did not make many size alterations. .. if that helps. sizing and fittings are definitely not my strength.

yes thanks that helps a lot!! xs will totally work and I think if its a bit long in the body that its forgiving enough to work…ok back on my todo it goes :)

It’s really beautiful. I bet that in person it’s hard to stop looking at this jacket. It’s got so many interesting structural details.

Ooo I like it!
Thanks for the website, I’m going to use some of those patterns! I’m fascinated by what people have done with the Margiela dress.
