This blouse is truly a work of art and quite a unique pattern. The ruffled sleeves and rippling hemline are created by various darts and gathers while the front and back openings both close with a sweet line of buttons. We made our Alexander* blouse from black & white polka-dot silk charmeuse with a matching belt (included in pattern).
*In loving memory of Alexander McQueen, a truly innovative and inspiring man.
Sizes 32-44: 1 3/4 yards (1.5 meters) self, 90 x 50cm interfacing, 13 buttons

I love the look of this blouse – mostly because I have a real thing for peplums at the moment! I’ve almost finished making a version.. and in doing so found that: a) it was too short – so I doubled the length of the peplum – better!; b) I couldn’t be bothered with the buttons down the back, so cut the back in one piece instead – easy!; and c) I’m really torn about the pleats in the front. The fact that I’m unconvinced about the pleats is why I haven’t finished making this blouse yet! I think it would be more flattering if it had darts instead of pleats to create a less baggy shape above the waistline – more thinking needed!

I don’t know why, but I can’t see the comment I posted on this project a while ago, even though it does show up in my activities. (Maybe I am blind! ;-)) Anyway, here’s what I had to say… That’s a very pretty and romantic blouse! Love the sleeves!

Full boobs – fine as the delicate detail and neckline would divide and make them appear smaller. Full abdo – fashion faux pas, it would just accentuate my mummy tummy LilyMoi is correct, not all full figures are the same.

Beautiful and classy. And as a “full figured” woman, well, I’d look great in it. The thing to remember is not all full figures are the same, any more than non-full figures are the same, so maybe it’ll work for you and maybe not. Works for me!
RIP, Alexander McQueen.

Very, very pretty. 15 years and 3 sizes and 2 pregnancies ago I could have worn such a thing. Nowadays I can admire it from a distance.

Cute blouse, but. . . In answer to the questions re: is this good garment for plus or full figure? Nooooooo! I’m a full figure with very long legs and not much of a curvy waist. My experience is to avoid waist belts, especially this one with the ruffle at the waist. It almost points to the waist and hips. The ruffle sleeve is too short and ruffled for larger arms and again would call attention to my strong yet full upper arms arms. I’m just saying. . . a no for this statuesque girl. Cute for those lucky 14’s and under or a petite! Love the sheer at the ruffle waist.

As a full figure girl i think it would look awesome for a full figure. Drop the waist a little to allow for the bust and add a little to the bottom and it is great! The belt is great for defining the waist

Ohh I really like it, but I’m not sure about having buttons in the back and front – just a personal preference for me, I wonder if I could cut the back on the fold instead? Very lovely though, let’s hope I can get my other projects finished so I can try this beauty :)

I’m also thinking about cutting the back in the fold… should be much more comfy. I will make a decision if I chose fabric for this…

beautiful! i don’t think it would work as a blouse on my body type (no need to make me look any shorter than i already am), but it would be excellent as the bodice of a dress with a nice full skirt for a vintage look. i would even keep the ruffled waist :)

Very nice blouse, but these buttons in the back will hurt everytime you’ll drive a car or sit on your couch. I would use other kind of buttons than these big boys!
