I made this wedding dress for my friend from high school. she came up with the elements of the dress she wanted (strapless, sweet heart neckline, wide waist band and big back bow with organza), and I put them together as a dress. we went to fabric shopping together to pick up fabrics and notions.
it took forever to make this, but the result was fulfilling. there are so many things that i would have done differently in retrospect (like the hem, you can see the stitches :( ), but i was generally happy with how it came out, and it fit her perfectly!
i wrote a series on my blog about my wedding dress making journey.
satin, organza, zipper, rhinestone, pearls, interface, underlining, horsehair braid

Beautiful bride and beautiful dress! I really love everything about this dress, especially the wide waist band and the big bow on the back. Her hair piece and the bouquet complimented the dress. She’s very lucky to have a friend who tailor made her wedding dress. She will be a happy and gorgeous bride. :)

Gorgeous dress and a beautiful bride. She’s lucky to have you as a friend. Regarding the hemline – we all learn from our own mistakes; however, the hemline isn’t that noticeable, so sit down and enjoy your success!

beautiful, I wouldn’t have noticed the hem if you hadn’t metioned it. If you know a way of invisible hemming for this fabric please share it.

thank you! i would have underlined the skirt with silk organza, then hem the dress with horsehair braid. hand stitch the horsehair braid to the silk organza, instead of the fashion fabric, then you would not see the stitches at all!
