Description
This dress is a hybrid of two patterns: the Coffee Date dress and the Afternoon Tea top….hence Afternoon Coffee Dress.
I made the little pleated trim quite thick so that it would really stand out, but i hate the way it sits a little bit funny at the centre of the sweetheart neckline…i might have to add a stitch or two to hold it flat. I added a belt that widens at the front and is nice and long at the back. For the skirt piece i used the shape of the coffee date pattern, but just made it a much fuller and then gathered it to fit at the waist.

Hello! I’m having a real hard time trying to figure out the pattern for this dress… because I am larger than the 34 of the afternoon tea pattern asks for! Can anyone offer any suggestions mayhaps?

How do you attach the skirt part? is it a separate piece or is it connected to the bodice in a way? By the way love it! I can’t wait to make it.

This is so cool. I knew exactly how you did it after looking at the printable pattern download of each pattern. It looks awesome and actually kind of easy once you know what to do. I just have one issue, the afternoon tea top is made for a 36B cup, and I am a 36D….so what would you suggest? I might try cutting that part a little more leingth and roundness for the front while leaving that pattern pretty much the same in width, but I don’t want to cut the fabric without knowing if it’ll even turn out ok. Do you have a better solution?

I need the pattern for this dress in peticular….you called it an adaptation of the two but the skirt of the original dress is an A-line and the dress you show doesn’t seem to be an A-line…umm I am just a novice but could you explain a bit to me

I used the skirt from the coffee date dress but just extended the length of the waist and hem measurements…you can do this by cutting the pattern piece into 4 equal pieces (cutting from waist to hem each time) spread the pieces apart and trace the new “bigger” piece (see also my comment below) – hope that makes sense!

This is the perfect color for this type of dress. Where did you get the fabric?

It’s cotton sheeting that i bought at Dunelm Mill, a home deco chain in the UK. It’s usually £5.95/metre but they were doing an offer for 99p/metre so I stocked up!!

Well, I used the original coffee date skirt pattern…cut it into 4 equal pieces (slashed down from the waist to the bottom seam 4 times) and then moved them all a couple of inches apart (still keeping the curved shape of the pattern going) and then cut this out so it has the shape of the skirt but with much longer waist and bottom seams…does that make sense?

How thick did you make the cream trim at the bottom? Also how long does your skirt fall?

the cream trim is about 5 inches i think…and the skirt falls 24" if i remember correctly – note, i’m very short so others may prefer to make it longer!

yes – download both patterns on the right of the screen…although you dont reeeeally need the coffee date dress bit…any full-skirted pattern would do fine. Good luck!

O i just made it up….pretty much just a long strip with diagonal edges, and i made it widen slightly in the middle at the front to add a bit of interest.

Absolutely great dress!! Great color combination and great shape.

you should do your own pattern for the skirt and belt because I’m not great with the whole sewing thing so a pattern from your variation would really help. Its super cute and i would definatly make one like yours

Did you extend the tea top pattern, and if so, how did you do it? By the way, the dress looks absolutely gorgeous, so gorgeous I’m gonna make it for my sister!

Coffee + afternoon tea = alice in wonderland! It’s gorgeous. The skirt might be my favourite part. Or the back with the bow… :-)

Is the belt attached, or just tied around the waist?
This is so beautiful :-)

well it is a good dress to start with – it’s extremely easy and the material is so cheap that if you make mistakes there’s no problem! If you do want to make something similar i’d be happy to answer any questions or give advice!! good luck!!

yes i used the Afternoon Tea Top for the bodice part of the dress and then used the basic shape of the Coffee Date Dress for the skirt – but i made it much fuller so i could gather at the waist. Have a go, it was very simple and i’d love to see another variation!

I really love your dress, But i have a question.
How much coton did you use? who many yards?

I used about 1.5m of cotton sheeting in the teal colour i think. I know that i bought about 3m, and i have about 1.5m left over!! You can amend the pattern to fit the material you’ve got because i just made the skirt as wide as my fabric width would allow and then gathered it in. If you use a little bit less / more material you can just adjust the gathers to fit.
