As promised, here is another party outfit I made for one my book signings last month in celebration of the release of BurdaStyle Sewing Vintage Modern.
I chose a painterly print on Spoonflower by Helen Dealtry that she made in collaboration with Jenny Gordy of Wiksten. I had it printed in a cotton silk, which truly brought the colors to life with a little sheen, and made a variation of the Elizabeth Gathered-Waist Dress I designed for the book.
I photographed my project at MoMA PS1 last weekend when I attended the Winter Open House to see CONFETTISYSTEM’s new stunning installation, 100 Arrangements. I first wore this dress to my New York book signing last month at the Manhattan Textile Arts Center, where I also teach sewing and draping classes. (Check out the last two photos shot by Victor Castro of WET PAINT at my first book signing.)
In my variation, I shortened the hem on the skirt, used a center back zipper, and made slight fit adjustments to the bodice. For a cleaner finish, I did a blind hem stitch on the hem. Stay tuned to see the other two party dresses I made!
