I made this large bag for my neighbor who lived next door to me. I was honored when she asked me to make her three bags to take back home with her when she and her family were returning to their home in Japan after having spent three years living in the USA while her husband worked in the US representing a Japanese company. I asked her to select fabrics from my stash and to select styles from my collection of bags and this is one of them.
This bag is made with a heavy cotton home dec fabric, interfaced with fusible fleece and decorated with a white button that I had been saving for who knows what – it just seemed to go so well with this bag.

The bag has a very elegant look with classic lines. I love Black and White swirl fabric. I have been on a bag adventure, making bags, totes, and clutches. your project is GREAT. Texture is so important when designing bags and buttons are wonderful because we all have a can of them sitting around for the next great thing. I love that you made it as a gift. Thanks for your comment. I made the pattern myself for this bag as I do with just about all the bags that I make.
It’s not a complicated pattern but hard to describe without drawings.

Thank you for your nice comment. I viewed your beautiful work on your blog. My husband and I visited your beautiful country in 1993. Lovely country and lovely people. Except that I got picked up for speeding on the Pan American Highway (I got out of getting a ticket with a few tears). Costa Rican coffee is the best!
