Burdastyle’s Mila pattern with a twist – I inserted a chunky metal exposed zipper instead of the hooks and eyes to give the dress a more “edgy” look. I chose big red roses for the skirt part to go with the chunky zipper. The inner layer is a more delicate broderie cotton with vertical patterns (but it’s hard to see on the photos.) I adjusted the pattern slightly for a slimmer silhouette, however, the pockets ended up sticking out a bit! I tried to hide this in the photos by putting my hands in the pockets, but you can see how they are a little sticky-outty in the close-up.
Bodice: black linen, Skirt: quilting cotton with big red roses, Inner layer: cherry red broderie cotton, chunky metal zip, invisible zip
Thanks Burdastyle!

I love this! The fabric is gorgeous, I am thinking about making this dress, yet i’m a beginner. Is it difficult? I love the zip instead of the hook&eyes, that looks good! :)

I love this dress, the zipper makes the dress lie smother then the hooks and eyes and the fabric is wonderful. Great job!

Such a fun twist! Love it. :-) Did you still put a zipper in the back as well?

Hi Ericaj3an,
Thanks for your encouraging comments. No zipper at the back, just the invisible zip in the side seam as specified in the pattern. A back zip… that would be cool though!

Hi Achille,
I’m not sure i understand your query, but i will give it a go. If you scroll to the bottom of the page, you will see two columns. Under “Website Help” you can click on the size chart to look at the table of required measurements.
After cutting the 34, i made a calico mock-up and adjusted the side seams for a slimmer fit.
Hope this helps. Good luck!
