After reading nikkishell’s page “Sewing for others?” (I know, I’m a bit slow, it was written back in Sept 08) and spotting a nifty tutorial on theclosetseamstress’s blog, I decided it was time to sew a skirt for mum. I added interfacing to the waistband for improved durability and shape. I also added a contrast black wide band at the hemline to highlight the elaborate pattern at the skirt and compliment the waistband. I also found cute little black and white shell buttons for the double-button closure at the waistband.
black satin, black and white patterned crepe-backed satin, iron-on interfacing for waistband, invisible zipper, 2 X small black and white shell buttons

It’s gorgeous! Your mum looks beautiful in the skirt. I love the fabric and the band on the waist matching the hem.

Hi Lovely Polly,
Mum reckons she picked the cardigan up from a random small boutique. Thanks for your encouraging comments!
