Burda Style For people who sew
Description
Sewing is my universe. So it seems only appropriate that I should make the galaxy dress.
Dress colour inspired by the fabulous Joan Harris of Mad Men.
Dress constructed using Vogue pattern 8280.
Fabric made of a surprisingly successful blend of silk and polyester.

:) A lot of my dresses I haven’t had the chance to wear more than once out in public but I try! It usually means that I’m that one person who turns up quite overdressed for occasions, but never mind!

Julia I love this dress along with all the other gorgeous things you make. I have just enjoyed reading your blog and especially your spotlight experience!! I am convinced that you have to be like that girl to be employed by that store because at the one I reluctantly have to visit occasionally, the staff there have been like that since it opened in the early 2000’s. How I miss my local drapery that was put out of business because of this store!! The drapery ladies were so helpful and so experienced and they were my surrogate aunties when I needed help. Anyway, you look so beautiful in red and you really give Mrs Joan Harris a run for her money!!

That is such a great compliment thank you! Yes there are many fabulous fabric stores that have since shut their doors which is sad; I guess despite the fact that so many of us are passionate about sewing we are still becoming a minority. Less and less people know how to even take up a hem.
Luckily there are still some of the Spotlight and Lincraft stores that have talented staff, just not all unfortunately.

Awesome as always! Amazing fit :) I’m almost ashamed to say this, because of my age perhaps, i’d love to make a dress like this (not sure if i could,though!), but i would have no place to wear it to! :$
