I made my wedding dress two months before the wedding after deciding to not wear the one I found at an op shop. The op shop one was beautiful but I think I always wanted to make my own.
I used 2 different patterns and tweaked them here and there. My awesome mum knitted 5 metres of tiny lace rows for the neckline, waist and hem of which I’m sure she couldn’t use her fingers for awhile! (thanks mum!). I used a petticoat of tulle that I dyed green and lined the dress in thin cotton to hopefully provide some cool relief (didn’t happen anyway, we got married in Thailand, on the hottest day EVER!). I added lace sleeves but searched everywhere for some nice stretch lace but ended up just settling for what I could find.
I also made my daughters flowergirl dress which was more fun to sew! I procrastinated a lot on my dress by making a few different versions for her! She picked the final one and I dyed the other ones other colours. Indi’s favourite flowers are daisies so we picked some daisy chain lace and she decided it needed to be in a heart on the bodice and then I followed it down the hem of the skirt overlay.
Im so glad I made these, it was a lot of fun and I spent some great times with my mum and daughter making up things as we went!

Oh my! I’ve been searching like crazy for patterns for my own wedding dress and this is EXACTLY what I’ve been picturing- what patterns did you tweak to make this fabulous thing? It’s so beautiful!

How exciting on making your own wedding dress! I first used Vogue V8615 but after making it I didn’t like the bust darts and the centre seam so I swapped the bodice with New Look 6723 (of which I’ve made a few versions). I also remade the skirt without the pockets of the vogue pattern. I would recommend though of maybe making the skirt slightly less full as my petticoat fell flat with the humidity and thus didn’t hold up and fill out the skirt as I would have liked. I had quite a bit of extra fabric folding around the back zip. But if you’re going to use quite a good full petticoat it should hold up better.
Good Luck! I’d love to hear if you use these patterns in your dress!

I love that your husband is wearing converse in your wedding pics! My boyfriend asked me what I would want him to wear if we ever got married and I said a nice pair of flares, retro 70s trainers and a super-fly shirt :) You all look great, congrats!

I love everything about your dress. So sorry it’s green now, though. Did it bleed evenly or in splotches?
