Description

I made this dress one year ago, for my husband’s son wedding. I wanted to wear something in a different color, step out from my comfort zone (blue, black, pink) and when I saw Diane Kruger in Jason Wu at the 2010 Sag Awards I knew I had to try and make this dress!
It took me a couple of months to complete it, there was a lot of experimenting because I had never ruched or draped before and I wasn’t following any instructions, I made it all from scratch. But after many, many hours of hand sewing my beautiful dress was ready, and I love it!!!

    I love this dress. I came across it because i just randomly decided i wanted to make a dress(i’ve never learned to sew) and i did some research. urs is the closest to what i want. any advice? im more of a figure it out as i go guy. im hoping to make this for my girlfriend as a gift so i have till july. i just think this is more thought/investment than buying something

      Wow! You are such a risk taker! I’d recommend you buy a good pattern to make the foundation dress (maybe a strapless gown?)
      There are many online tutorials nowadays, look for a good one on how to insert an invisible zipper, those details make such a difference!
      And I’m thinking perhaps a stretchy fabric could be easier for you to work with, and a little more “forgiving” in case you can’t fit it on your girlfriend as you sew.
      It’s very sweet of you to try and make a pretty dress for your girl, I wish you the best of luck!

    love it! How did you get the drawing to stay? Like by the breast area. I tried draping but when it comes time to take it down to sew, it all comes apart!

      Thank you! I drape the fabric and pin everything in place (hundreds of pins), then I make really tiny hand stitches to hold the draped chiffon to the satin. It takes time and patience because I don’t like those stitches to be visible, but I think it’s worth the effort!

    This such an amazing dress! The colour looks great on you and the fit is perfect. The long hours you put in it were worth it, it looks like a couture gown. Congratulation!

      La elección del color fue un poco osada, lo pensé y lo pensé pero finalmente me atreví y no me arrepiento, en la boda no había nadie con vestido ni parecido!!!
