I make these birds using a pattern created exclusively for Spool Sewing by Michael Fulkerson. I also made a tutorial on how to use the pattern and whip up your own little Aviary of scrap birds on my blog, here:

I love these birds because they are an amazing use of scraps. It only requires two pieces of fabric, one that is 7" by 3", and one that is 9" by 3". What’s not to love! I also love doing them because it creates a cute little gallery of my past projects, and they make excellent pet toys. See, Tiny Tiger LOVES his!
cotton fabric, cotton batting. All thrifted or left over from other projects. Score.

Awwwww!!! He looks so pleased with his toy! He is so cute! Did you put catnip inside? If I make it for one of our cats they will probably give me the most ignoring look ever.

He is adorable, that Tiny Tiger. The camera loves him. I didn’t even put catnip in this one, but they go NUTS when I do. Well, Tiny Tiger does. Mr. Malevolent is like, what the hell are you doing, silly human?

Your kittie and the birds are really cute. I am definitely going to try some for my little Lily. Great idea to keep a reminder of past projects.

Lol, I adore that this is “unisex” projetc :). I made two of these birds too, one of them I use as a pincushion, the second one was embelished with sequins, lace and beads and became a gift :).

Ha, this is why sewing for cats is the best, they either adore or disdain your efforts, but at least you know where you stand!
