Burda Style For people who sew
Description
Wool tulip-shape coat from Burda Style magazine 9/2007 model 107.
I made it a season ago. Just fell in love with some furry wool blend fabric during my run through fabric stores and had to take it home. Well – the colour is quite BOLD (let’s call it so), but … why not.
It was really complicated to make decision regarding right pattern for such fabric, because of it’s furry structure a lot of patterns were not suitable. I knew, that I want something quite short, not bulky and finally chose # 107 from September 2007 issue.
I changed the collar (used mock collar instead of the traditional one), omitted the back slit, actually had some issues with the fitting of sleeves and bodice, that I had to fix. But the most painful topic was ironing as despite the gentle regime and use of ironing cloth (even from inside), the fabric lost it’s wonderful shine and smoothness after seam pressing.
For closure I used snap buttons, added some piping to the lining for contrast.
P.S. Now, when I’m looking at the back of my coat in the picture, it looks that I have to make it more fitted, although that means no chance to wear a jacket under it. Well – beauty requires sacrifice.
