The Every-Body Bikini – Simplicity #6353 1974
Multikini – Butterick #6674 1974
I stitched these two bikinis up by following a couple of vintage patterns. The original photographic T-shirt-type fabric remnants – which were wider than they were long – were stored with the patterns. I practiced using a twin needle, and also a ballpoint needle with zig zag top-stitch. I’m too shy to buy a bikini so I thought i’d make one (er, two) instead… Not sure how long either of these skimpy two pieces (I may as well wear underwear lol!) would hold up to the sun, sea, chlorine, and sand, for… but they were at least terrific practice for sewing.
early ’70s crosswise stretch-knit medium weight directional photographic T-shirting fabrics, tan knit lining, 90s black stretch lining, rattail satin cording in pink and blue, elastic, vintage plastic bikini clasp, 2 vintage shell buttons on halter strap.
