The Every-Body Bikini – Simplicity #6353 1974
Multikini – Butterick #6674 1974
I stitched these two bikinis up by following a couple of vintage 70s sewing patterns. Both vintage photographic print fabric remnants appear to be wool but look similar to t-shirting, were wider than they were long, and were stored with the patterns. I practiced using a twin needle, and also a ballpoint needle with zig zag top-stitch. I’m actually too shy to wear bikinis, so (obviously) I thought I’d make one (er, two). Not sure how long either of these skimpy two pieces would hold up to the sun, sea, chlorine, and sand, for; but they were at least terrific practice for sewing. I decided to (fairly heavily) line them both. Locations: Pt Chevalier & Waiheke Island
early ’70s crosswise-stretch medium-weight directional photo-collage printed wool-based knit fabrics, tan wool knit lining, 90s black stretch lining, rattail satin cording in pink and blue, elastic, vintage plastic bikini clasp, 2 vintage shell buttons on halter top strap.
