Description

I made a coat! In a day!

No lining or bound buttonhole loveliness here I’m afraid, but a very warm and (I think) stylish winter jacket.

The pattern is number 102 from the current Burda magazine (10/2012) and I used some wool boucle. The pieces fitted together beautifully and I had no problems with the pattern at all.

It’s so quick because there is no seam finishing or hemming. Coat or sleeves too long? Just cut a bit off!

Two Burda tracing tips I’ve picked up which helped – I went over the pattern lines with a marker before tracing, and used a Post-it to mark my place in the instructions.

I love the collar, it feels very glamorous, and doubling the thick fabric around the top makes it extremely warm. It was only around 9 degrees while we were taking the photos, but I got too hot.

I used one very large popper to fasten the collar, instead of the three suggested.

Stunning! The coat was already on my list, but I’m still looking for a fabric. I love the duffle mohair with long hair that is used in the magazine, but up till now I could not find such a fabric. But now I see your version with the wool boucle, I might give up my search for the mohair! Nice job!

Beautiful! I can’t tell you how jealous I am. I have been wanting to make something out of wool boucle for a long time. Your coat looks so good I’m going to make it too. Thanks for sharing.

This coat is definitely on my list, although it hardly ever gets cold enough for it where I live. I’m so glad to see your version (inspiring purple!) and to hear that the pattern works well. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you! Lucky you, being warm. It would be great in a lighter fabric too.
