I had an urge to make myself a cat , and I was keen to make it not so cute as most toys that I have made , but rather more the sort of cat you would come across in a fantasy film , with a tim burton aesthetic. I had to do a bit of engineering inside the body with wire prongs coming through a cardboard base so that it would stay upright , as the head is almost as heavy as the body . I also wanted to add some interest with two complementary fabrics . The tail is a fabric tube encasing coiled wire .
I think she looks like a Madeleine , plus I love the sound of that name :-)
polka dot fabric , floral fabric, wadding , beige felt , plastic eyes , wire , cardboard ,embroidery floss in various colours.

I love this cat its got a great face, and to be honest I don’t even like cats. I am a massive fan of Tim Burtons work it wouldn’t look out of place in Alice and Wonderland.

That is a bizarre and almost frightening cat, yet the more I look at it, the more endearing it becomes. Strange… Crap, I think I like it :P
Now I’m seriously considering making a doorstop kitty in this vein…
