Description

This dress was made to be a “wedding dress” for the lead female role in Sarah Ruhl’s play Eurydice. I based it on a favourite pattern of mine Covertible/Infinity Dress *. The dress was sewn differently than the original pattern, using a half circle skirt and a panel inserted as a “train”. Because of the time constraints of costume change, the back waistline of the dress was left large and fastening hooks were sewn into the back of the dress to allow for a quick change.

*I don’t claim ownership of this pattern.

Material Notes

If you haven't been here yet, it's worth taking an afternoon to go check out the "Garment District":http://www.taubenfeld.bravepages.com/NewYorkCityFabricDistrict.htm (or check "here":http://www.paulanadelstern.com/fabric/guides/ ) in New York City to buy and drool over fabric. I found my fabric here. Honestly, I'm not quite sure it is made out of, part of it may be crepe. Just look for nicely draping fabric. I've made this dress several times in different fabrics. Stretchy fabrics will allow you to stick closer to the original design. However, some well placed hooks will allow this dress to be done in other, stiffer fabrics.
